Webinar Recording: Lessons Learned During the Migration to a New DCS

The post Webinar Recording: Lessons Learned During the Migration to a New DCS first appeared on the ISA Interchange blog site.

This educational ISA webinar was presented by Greg McMillan. Greg is an industry consultant, author of numerous process control books, 2010 ISA Life Achievement Award recipient and retired Senior Fellow from Solutia Inc. (now Eastman Chemical).

This ISA webinar on control valves is introduced by Greg McMillan and presented by Hector Torres, in conjunction with the ISA Mentor Program. Hector is a recipient of ISA’s John McCarney Award for the article on opportunities and challenges for enabling new automation engineers. Hector has been a member of the ISA Mentor Program since its inception. In this webinar, he provides a detailed view of how to use key PID controller features that can greatly expand what you can achieve. The setting of anti-reset windup ARW limits, dynamic reset limit, eight different structures, integral dead band, and set-point filter. Feedforward and rate limiting are covered with some innovative application examples

Principal ISA Mentor Program mentee Hector Torres shares his extensive knowledge gained after migrating a plant from an 1980s vintage DCS to a state-of-the art, new DCS. The following important topics are covered: the proper setting of tuning parameters, controller output scales, anti-reset windup limits, and the many grounding, wiring, and configuration practices found to be essential in a migration project that exceeded expectations.
