DVC and Wireless THUM kept Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant lean and effective

I was attending this workshop session on the use of DVC and wireless THUM in a Combined Cycle 847MW power plant.

Nobody in the audience quite believe that they had a total staff of 24 people running the entire power plant - yes 24 not 240!

They proactively use technology to optimize maintenance and predict asset problems/failures. The use of Wireless THUM on DVC was one of the key programs that they implemented.

The plant has been challenged by the Japanese authorities to chip in more power since the unfortunate total Nuclear power shutdown in Japan. And this plant responded - chipping in more power to the grid and still running with 24 people...with AMS/DVC further optimizing all their maintenance work. Impressive!!!

  • Was the DVC PD tiers and AMS ValveLink SNAP-ON used for predictive maintenance?

  • In reply to Soon Peng Goh:

Yes - PD was used including travel deviation, friction and cycle counting etc.

They were meticulous with their planning and scehduling - they noted some test that were best done online while others things that needs to be done offline. There was then a master scehdule with all kinds of maintenance/diagnostic activities scheduled months ahead, AMS was used...They also had a good suggestion that AMS explorer screen should have the flexibility to divide the entire plants into units and areas before drilling down to the individual assets.

  • Not sure if this is what the customer is talking about.
