Measuring Small Chemical Tank Level With Smarter Pressure Gauges

Many industrial facilities have small storage tanks and chemical totes spread throughout their plant. The levels in these tanks are often known only by regular operator rounds throughout the plant. If pressure gauges are installed to locally display the level, manual rounds are still necessary for operators to know their chemical inventory. These manual rounds lead to increased operating costs while only gaining limited visibility of their inventory.

Using technologies like the Rosemount Wireless Pressure Gauge can be a great way to have a clear local indication of level, while also having frequent access to these level measurements in the control rooms and/or shops. With gage ranges as low as 15 in-H2O and an accuracy from 1% to 0.5%, these pressure gauges can be a very reliable way to monitor these tank levels. In addition, these gauges improve plant safety by reducing personal exposure to dangerous areas and by improving the mechanical robustness compared to traditional bourdon tube gauges.

Tim Milarch provides a great explanation here on how this technology works:

One way to enhance visibility to these wireless pressure gauges is through a “Know Before You Go” application called PlantwebTM Insights. With an easy-to-use interface, the Plantweb Wireless Pressure Gauge Insight Application provides a simple way to visualize and manage your pressure gauge arsenal.
