ORIFiCE PLATES

What is a pilot bore?

Is this a MUST to provide when customer orders a blank plate?

What will be the effect of customer boring themselves if not provided with a pilot bore during purchased?

In addition to the above, i am curious to know about trims. i cannot find anything from GOOGLE on trims.

What is this "trim" in orifice fitting? What is standard NACE trim, AASG trim or Standard "A" trim. How does a trim look like. The orifice fitting brochure has no picture or diagram of a trim....

The better to use "oriface plate" to search it out from Google ...

  • Question No. 1

A pilot hole is drilled in all 10” and larger DVS Bonded Orifice Plates.  The purpose of the pilot hole is to insure the following:

    a) Concentricity

    b) Eliminate the mold from floating during bonding

    c) Facility orifice plate centering during set up prior to the boring process

Smaller Non-Bonded BLANK orifice plates do not require pilot holes however the following applies:

    a) The Daniel Name & Logo will be XXX out.

    b) Daniel does not warrant the plate

    c) Daniel will not guarantee the orifice plate to be in compliance with AGA 3 / API 14.3 standard

Attached please find the trim selections used for 2”- 14” ANSI 150# – 600# Senior Orifice Fittings  The attachment is a un-controlled  document subject to engineering changes or modifications.  The document is not to be incorporated into any published literature without prior approval.

    In reply to Ldickenson:

What standard does a DANIEL ORIFICE PLATE 316SS material conforms to with reference to ASME

  • In reply to Anonymous:

There are several standards regarding orifice plate specification and tolerances.

    AGA 3

    API Chapter 14.3

    ISO 5167-2

    ASME Fluid Meters

    ISA

Each standard may be somewhat different relative to compliance with orifice plate edge sharpness, & thickness etc..  Most orifice plates are manufactured from either 304 or 316 Stainless Steel.  In addition to stainless steel Daniel has also manufactured orifice plates from Monel – Hastalloy and Inconel.  The ISO and ASME standard are very similar as is AGA & API.
