Onshore Direct from the Wellhead Multiphase Flow Measurement

Indications keep coming in that the oil & gas production business, particularly in unconventional oil & gas production, continues to improve. This RBN Energy article, Ready To Run – Strong Capex Boost By ConocoPhillips Headlines Early 2018 Guidance is one example of this business improvement trend. The article notes how oil & gas producers have continued to lower their “costs of supply” of production.

Technology advancements have played a role in lowering this cost of supply. Shale oil & gas regions have used test separators to measure the oil, gas and water components in the producing wells. This 4-minute YouTube video, Roxar Multiphase Meter 2600, illustrates how modular, three-phase flow measurement improves both project capital efficiency and ongoing operational efficiency.

For onshore, non-conventional oil & gas producing regions, the multiphase metering technologies were scaled and modularized to meet the technical and commercial requirements. By measuring direct from the wellhead, the operator’s staff can respond immediately to changing well conditions. With modular options, the Roxar 2600 multiphase meters can be applied in multi-well testing, allocation, fiscal metering, and well flow-back monitoring applications.

Modular technologies include electrical impedance measurements, gamma density measurements, venturi section, cross-correlation techniques, and advanced signal processing. The Roxar MPFM 2600 M base model is designed for permanent single well installations for trending water cut, gas breakthrough and flow rates.

The Roxar MPFM 2600 MV model adds a field-replaceable venturi sleeve insert to adapt to changes in production conditions and extends the gas volume fraction (GVF) operating range for the meter. The Roxar MPFM 2600 MG add the gamma density system, which is designed for permanent single well installations. It improves the accuracy and robustness of the measurements.

The Roxar MPFM 2600 MVG model works for single well and multi-well applications. It adds both venturi and gamma system provides the best accuracy, robustness and greatest application flexibility. The Roxar MPFM 2600 MVGS adds the Roxar Multiphase Salinity System (RMSS), which is intended for wells with expected changes in produced water salinity. It provides direct water conductivity measurements to eliminate the need for sampling in high water cut wells. The wet gas mode extends the measurement range of up to 100% GVF.

These modular options provide the flexibility for a wide variety of oil & gas flow regimes to provide direct from the wellhead multiphase flow measurements.
