Fluid Control for Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers

At the Emerson Exchange America’s Virtual Series, Emerson’s William Riggieri and Alicia Spaulding discussed fluid control solutions for ultra-low temperature freezers, something critical for the COVID-19 vaccine supply chain. Here is their presentation abstract:

With the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, the demand for ultra-low temperature freezer solutions is increasing. In this presentation, Emerson experts explain the critical role of the ultra-low temperature freezers in storing COVID-19 vaccines. They will discuss the typical challenges in designing the fluidic patch of these freezers and how to solve them, by using some real-case examples.

Alicia showed some application flow diagrams for traditional and ultra-low temperature freezers.

ASCO Series 262, 263 and 264 cryogenic valves can be used because they are rated for very low temperature applications such as liquid nitrogen at -196degC. Medical refrigerators are used to keep medicines, organs and other items requiring cryogenic temperatures. These rugged valves also handle media such as air/inert gas, water, hot water, steam, light oil, fuel gas, fuel oil, and other cryogenic fluids.

Bill shared a success story of an ultra-low temperature freezer redesign project that required cryogenic valves. The ASCO series of valves were used for the flow of liquid nitrogen through the two-stage compressor design. The valves provide consistent reliable service.
