Emerson and Nokia Discuss Partnering for Innovation at the Edge

In the coming months and years, industrial users and OEMs can expect to see more and more problems being solved through innovation partnerships, and often those partnerships will meet at the intersection of operational technology (OT) and informational technology (IT). In two recent videos (linked below), Jill Burdette, director of strategic accounts for Emerson, and Thomas Hainzel, head of evolution and partnerships for Nokia, discuss the value of such partnerships and how advances in edge technology are forwarding these collaborations.

Hainzel explains that more and more computing power is moving to the shop floor where edge computing capabilities make it possible to accomplish the turning of data into information right at the machine level. The job gets done fast and accurately, no matter what’s happening outside the plant floor. Burdette concurs. The problem in plants, she says, is that they tend to be data-rich and knowledge-poor, but edge technology is changing all that. Emerson’s innovation in machine-level technology and edge computing meets Nokia’s advanced networking at the edge – the intersection of OT and IT.

In these video conversations, Hainzel and Burdette discuss how this and future innovation partnerships will work to meet the many and varied needs of industrial companies, providing everything from analytics at the machine level to fast, easy energy analysis and OEE, all communicated to the enterprise and beyond for valuable decision-making.
