Movicon.NExT™︎ Helps Improve Efficiency and Reduces Energy Consumption for Power Cogeneration Plant

When Alea Energia took over a vegetable oil fired power cogeneration plant in Catania, Italy, the plant was plagued by inefficient machine operation and high energy costs that were a drag on profitability. They immediately went to work on revamping the plant for higher efficiency and one of the key steps was installing an Emerson Movicon.NExTTM advanced automation platform as a supervisory control system. The new SCADA-based system oversees the entire plant, which is divided into two sections, one managing supply, heating and fuel filtration, and the other managing heat recovery from engine cooling water and exhaust fumes. Movicon also connects to a cloud software platform, used to collect energy data from all the Electra group’s power plants. In addition, the Alea Service project manager stated, “Another advantage of Movicon.NExT is the alarm dispatcher, which is a feature that other SCADA systems do not have and one that I consider to be very useful, if not indispensable in any plant management system.”

How Emerson and Movicon.NExT helped Alea Energia achieve its efficiency and energy reduction goals is revealed in this Proven Result – read the whole story here.
