ALMGRP_ALM and COMMON_ALM in flood suppression module redundant?

Hey Matt I am tasked with rationalizing the alarms generated by the flood suppression modules. I'm staring at the ALM_GRP alarm (LOG by default) and the COMMON_ALM (WARNING by default, I think) - both are triggered by the same parameter (TRIPPED). What was the thinking behind having two alarms generated by the same parameter?

I'm putting verbiage in "alarm help" to the effect, "logic configured in the DCS has suppressed multiple alarms - check the list to determine if any of the suppressed alarms are relevant for current conditions".

  • It's been a minute...but I initially thought the ALMGRP_ALM alarm was to capture "What happened" and the COMMON_ALM could be used to bring a single alarm instead of all the other Flood of Alarms that you just suppressed.

It looks like there is logic in the USER_EXPRESSION that does suppression of that alarm for DeltaV SAM audit reports.
