  • Yes, OPC UA supports Alarm and Events, as well as Historical Data Access and Data Access. On the DeltaV System there is an OPC UA license to enable the use of OPC UA across the system. Once that is in place you can configure the server(s) for OPC UA. OPC UA provides levels of security and encryption so the these must be configured and set up on the client to match. If you choose to not use certificates, you should at least ensure you are using named logon accounts.

The licensing under the this remains the same. That is you would still license the OPC DA tags, OPCHDA connections and Alarm and Event server. So if you are wanting to use OPC UA for Alarms and Events, you need both the System OPC UA license and also the Alarm and Event license on the server you will retrieve these from.

    Hi Andre,

Is the DV UA license required for UA client from DV, or is it just for UA Server functionality?

I see you mention system wide, but when downloading the UA client configuration, it doesn't complain about lack of license, whereas UA server config does complain.

Just wanted to clarify the right answer.

    Thanks

When I check the Product Data Sheet for OPC UA servers, in indicates the OPC UA Activation license for the system is required for Servers AND Clients.

In the License Properties of my system it shows that I need the OPC UA Activation, but I also have a server enabled. If you've enabled just the client on your system, and OPC UA Activation indicates 1!, you need the license. The Exclamation mark indicates you are insufficiently licensed.

But also, the OPC UA Client is licensed by the number of signals configured. The OPC DA license is assigned to an Appstation and consumed by the OPC DA server, whether the clients connect via DA or UA. The OPC UA client is separately licensed by signals.

The OPC UA client configuration is very similar to the EIOC PDT/LDT structure, but the licensing is by signal rather than by LDT. If you use the OPC UA driver in the EIOC, it reverts to the EIOC licensing model with a DST license per LDT.

Download the OPC UA product Data Sheet to get more information on the Licensing of the product.
