Can I use DeltaV & AMS to monitor a valve controlled by another system using hart.

Hey, I have a valve not connected to my DeltaV that I would like to monitor with the DeltaV via hart with out effecting the control from the other system.

  • Do you already have a WirelessHART network in your plant? If so you could simply put a WirelessHART adapter on the valve positioner, and have the WirelessHART gateway connected to AMS Device Manager, and even Valve Link in case it is a Fisher positioner. This way no changes to the 4-20 mA signal. Learn more from this essay: www.linkedin.com/.../

If you don't have what Jonas recommended, you can possibly multiplex out the HART signal from the other system and bring it into the AMS DM system to monitor or using a direct HART modem connection which might not be possible due to the distance restriction.
  • Yes, and in addition to my previous post, in case you do not yet have WirelessHART network across your plant this is a good time to start deploying it. Start with a gateway in the area where the said valve is located, and then scale out across the plant. The WirelessHART network can also be used for lots of other functions such as reliability of equipment like pumps, energy efficiency, flare reduction, safety showers, and manual valves etc.
