Open loop detection new installation AO card

Dear specialist

I have installed an additional AO card, 8 ch, 4-20 mA, Hart, Series 2 in order to control some speed converters. We have installed the wiring to the converters simularly as the existing. The card is found via auto sense and is downloaded to the controller, O

When the channels are enabled, we got the following failure Bad device failure, open loop detected.

We checked the wiring and that seems okay, because we checked this with installation of the speed converters with an AO card already in operation. That seems to function very well.

We are using professionalPlus software v12.3.

Does have anyone an idea what could be the problem?

If you have a solution for our problem, I will appreciated very well. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

  • The first place I would start troubleshooting is with the field power. Are the speed converters 2 or 4 wire devices? Also, what slot is the new card installed in?
  • Check and make sure you have field power connected for that card. For M-Series IO this is more likely to not be wired / fuse not in.

Refer to Books Online for more information:
    If you have M-Series IO
DeltaV Books Online -> Hardware Installation -> DeltaV S-Series and CHARMs Hardware Installation -> DeltaV M-Series Hardware Installation and reference -> Installing Your DeltaV System -> Installing the System -> Connecting Bussed Field Power

    If you have S-Series IO

Thank you for your replies. We have solved the problem. For our system we have 3 carriers with slots next to each other. In the slots next to the installed card, we installed thermocouples. For the thermocouples no 24 VDC power for indidual cards is required and was not installed. We wired the power cables and now it functions. You see often that the solution is simple.
