HART device will not scan through AMS

Hello

I would like to some feed back on an issue we have been dealing with.

Prior to installing a new HART device in the field we have recently begun setting it up on the "test bench" Delta V controller (Ver. 13) and then removing it and installing in the field permanently.

I reached out to EE365 community and was instructed to disable the HART channel, and downloading the card first, then change the A/I device tag  back to its original default tag (XX_XXX_CO1CH01) download again then I was clear to remove the device from the test rack.

I tried this procedure when we had to replace a HART flow transmitter that failed recently but unfortunately AMS is not able to scan the newly installed device.

The new device with the newly updated rev. appears in explorer properly, and in AMS as well.

I was able to rebuild the physical hierarchy throughout the AMS network and it also appears at the I/O level in AMS.

Everything looks good for this device except I can’t scan the device, AMS is unable to communicate with the live device......

Is there a procedure that can walk me through step by step on how to put a HART device on to a test rack and then remove it for a permanent installation.

my other question is does anyone else put new HART devices on a test rack to set them up and verify calibration prior to installation.

Thanks

  • I assume you have HART re-enabled on the channel in DeltaV, otherwise AMS will not be able to talk to the device.

Yes I do, the device that we replace was on a HART enabled channel, and that was never changed.

Did you right mouse button in the list in AMS and select Unassign. I normally have to do this twice, once to retire & the second time to spare. When you search in AMS you will probably see that your device is still linked to the old I/O channel and not the new one. If you search for the old device that resided in the that I/O spot, it is probably still in the AMS device database and allocated. This has prevented me from being able to scan in the past. After the Retire & Spare, I don't normally have any problems. I am assuming since your test bench in part of your active system. If it is not, then you may want to verify that you have the latest DD installed on the live system. Good luck!
