  • You can't, not directly. You have to delete the node to free up the license.

Export the node first and edit the FHX file with NotePad, find the line that assigns the license to this node and delete. Make sure the syntax remains correct. Then you can delete the node and re-import this modified file to recreate the node without the assigned license. The node should get recreated with the same IP address and you'll have to download it to clear the change flag, after you've assigned the view only license.

Note that the IP address is not saved in the FHX file, but there is a Device Index. The IP address is derived from this information on Import. If the workstation was imported into this database from a separate database, the IP address of this node may be reset during the recreation of this node. This is unlikely, but if it does happen, you will need to run Workstation Configuration on that computer with a new DEVDATA.CFG file to align the IP address. You cannot force the IP address in the database. Again this is unlikely, but after the import, check the IP address and if it is the same, simply assign the required license(s) to this station and download. The workstation will continue to function with Full Span license until you download it with the View only license.
