Event Chronicle Stop Recording Data

Hello,

My Event Chronicle stop recording data in November 26.

When I configure parameters to show history data from earliest to latest, the latest data stop on November 26 2014.

Can someone please help me to retreive previous data to-date and how to prevent this from happening again?

Thank you kindly.

  • It is likely that you do not have your chronicle set up to automatically create current data sets.

In the Advanced tab of the Event Chronicle Configuration, you probably have the Current Event History Data Set Total Storage Target set for 0.

Now according to documentation, the active should still record data in this scenario, overwriting the oldest data first on the active chronicle, so perhaps you have a different problem.

Are you sure you are looking at the active data set in PHV?  That is the default, but it is possible that you are not.   In PHV look at Events-->Configure Events and make sure the Active on the proper chronicle is selected.

In diagnostics, what is the state of the Alarms and Events subsystem (ECHRON) on the chronicle server?

Open Event Chronicle Administration and see if you have any current data sets, and what the storage capacity and state of the active chronicle is.

Moving forward, I would suggest enabling at least one more chronicle, so that the data is not lost.  I'm not sure you have any recourse restoring the data at this point, however.

Is this, by any chance, a Batch system? Specifically, do you have an Application Station acting as a Batch Historian? If so, you may have parallel collection of Event Chronicle data in this node.

If your data stop at 26NOV, you may have PHV pointed to a different data server. In addition to Youssef's suggestion regarding checking that you're connected to the Active dataset, you might also check the status bar at the lower right of the PHV window to see which workstation node the application is using for Event Chronicle Data.

    Thank you Youssef for responding.

    Responses to your questions above.

    1. The Event Chronicle is setup on the Pro-Plus and Diagnositcs shows the state of ECHRON as GOOD. diagnostics also show the ECStop is NO, which means the Event Chronicle has not stop recording. Excess disk space is show alot.

How do I start the Event Chronicle to collecting data again?

  • In reply to Youssef.El-Bahtimy:

    Hello,

Here is the options in Configure Event Chronicle.

    Events Data: Proplus, localhost,

Events: Current is from 5/2/2014 to 5/21/2014. Active from 4/2/2014 to 11/26/2014

I am not sure why my Current does not have more data sets then just one. I am also not sure why stop recording on 11/26/2014

In Diagnositcs, I notce the HDSXSMB (Excess disk space) is 1.52165E+006, and my Active Event History Data Set Storage Target is 4000Mbytes. As Youssef mentioned the system should automatically delete old current data sets once the storage size is full and continue colleting data for the new active data set.

But for some reason data collection stopped in November.

    Hello Ray,

No, this is not a Batch System and No the Application Station is not a Batch Historian (it is disabled). Event Chronicle is enabled only on the Pro-Plus.

How do I check which data server the PHV is poining to?
  • In reply to DCS Newbie:

Based on the screenshot you have above, you can change the data server using the Event Data drop-down menu. Currently, you have PRO-PLUS, which, as you noted, ends on 26NOV14. The Event Data menu will list any additional collectors in the network.
  • In reply to Ray Emerson:

    Ray,

the Event Data drop-down menu only show Pro+, defaulthost, and localhost. And each show active data set ended on 26NOV14

Are all pertinent areas (including AREA_A) assigned to your chronicle (Pro Plus)? Check the services console and ensure the EventChronicleManager service is running. If not, start it. Check taskmanager and ensure ChronicleComServer process is running. If not, you may have to reboot.
  • In reply to Youssef.El-Bahtimy:

    Thank you,

Yes, all pertinent areas (including AREA_A) are assigned to ProPlus

    I went to services.msc and:

I noticed that SQL Server (DeltaV_Chronicle) was set to Manual and stopped. I started it and set to automatic.

EventChronicleManager was set to Manual, I set to Automatic and started it.

I was unable to locate ChronicleComServer.

    Thanks
  • In reply to DCS Newbie:

So I don't think EventChronicleManager or SQL Server (DeltaV_Chronicle) are installed as automatic, but rather the DeltaV service starts them manually.

I'd be careful about setting them as automatic, as they may need to wait for DeltaV service to be functional.

After all that, are you seeing any difference in either chronicle status or collection?

You can also look in Windows application and system event log for the date/time of the outage and see if any relevant messages appear.
  • In reply to Youssef.El-Bahtimy:

    Thanks,

I don't see any difference. The active data set still shows to 11/26/2014. The active data set is not showing events for today.

When I open Event Chronicle Adminstration I do not see any data sets. Also, I do not see the Ejournal folder under D:/DeltaV.
  • In reply to DCS Newbie:

The chronicles should be under c: or d: /DeltaV/dvdata/Chronicle.
When you open Event Chronicle Administration on the Event Chronicle server, you see nothing?

It sounds like something has de-coupled, so in DeltaV Explorer, disable events collection on the node and download.

Then re-enable events collection and download again. See if anything improves.
  • In reply to Youssef.El-Bahtimy:

    Thank you so much Youssef

I am not sure what the problem is. I called Emerson technical support on Friday, made a copy of the Windows and Application events log and sent to them

Support team kindly walked me through reactiving Event Chronicle and events/alarms are recording as normal now. However, all data from 11/26/2014 til now was loss because Event Chronicle was not recording.

I also notice that the Current Active data set was not updating every 30 days as set in the Event Chronicle Advance tab.

Thanks for the all help. I will update the thread on the conclusion to the problem.
    Thanks

I am having a similar issue. Could you tell me what was the actions suggested by Support Team to solution?

  • In reply to Thiago Sousa Borba:

I'd suggest downloading installing SQL management studio and then reviewing the dbo.ejournal and dbo.ejoverflow flow tables. Hopefully your 'active data set is small and some data loss would be ok, you can then delete them and reboot machine. DeltaV Services should recreate them on start-up. You can also manually export/backup the tables before you delete them to retain the data.
