DeltaV Live Theme vs title bars

I'd like to start a discussion about how DeltaV Live handles title and menu bar colors with different color themes.  It seems the title bars, tool bars, menu bars, etc. were engineered with the Silver/Default theme in mind and there doesn't seem to be any way to change their default color or animate them in any way.  This isn't a problem if we only plan on using the Silver/Default theme in DeltaV Live, but we also plan on using the Dark Blue theme.  This is where these title bars become very noticeable.

Silver Theme:

Dark Blue Theme:

Per High Performance Graphics / Human Centered Design philosophy, the displays should be designed in a way that the eyes are drawn first to the most important things on the page.  In the Dark Blue theme with all displays the same dark color (especially in a darker control room), the brightest things on these displays are the title bars and tool bars.  In a nutshell, it is actually pretty glaring.

So, let's discuss this.  Has anyone identified this as a problem and come up with a solution or workaround?

  • The Toolbar and other colors for the interface are handled by the Layout being used. On the Styling Tab for the layout there is a section for Toolbars where you can select standards to be used which could change with the selected theme.

The Title color for the contextual display unfortunately is handled by Operating System Application Window Color configuration so it can't be "theme" dependent.

Can you open the contextual displays without a tool bar, and create a close button similar to VBA, "close Me"? The Title bar of a Faceplate has the minimize and close buttons. The minimize button is useful as it keeps the window open and when called, opens immediately. I wouldn't want to lose that functionality, but if minimize and close can be called from a script, then the title bar is not really needed.

    Matt,

Thanks for replying so quickly.  I went into the Windows personalization settings and tinkered a bit and was able to change the Application Window color settings.  Unfortunately, no change to the title/menu bar nor the contextual display title bar (see screenshot below).  It also had no effect on the navigation bar.  However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the "background" of the contextual display switched to black when I enabled High Contrast Mode, but that breaks other things... like certain configuration window options in Graphics Studio.

Either way, it seems the title/menu/navigation bar colors are governed by some other setting, if at all.  But we're making progress in the right direction.  Maybe I'm still doing something wrong?

As for the main toolbar, there doesn't seem to be a setting anywhere that lets me choose any of the colors.  Am I missing something?  Do I need to create a custom toolbar and hide the main toolbar?  I notice our custom PBL-derived toolbar is animating just fine.

    Andre,

Good suggestion. We'd have to make sure that there is still something to hold onto to move/reposition the contextual display to another location on the screen. I can only do that from the title bar.

James, the Menu and Navbar Color’s are set from the layou Styling. Above you’ve selected the monitor where the menu bar icon options are set. Clear this and look under Styling to adjust Color and font etc.

Can you log a call with the GSC for this contextual title issue? I know very early on I brought this up during testing and I thought that the windows setting had worked.

As Andre pointed out, don't have the screen or anything selected in layout, see example below

Thank you, Matt and Andre!  I was able to get my hands on a default layout and copy the styling, since there are a lot of standards to select.  For anyone who is following this discussion, here's a screenshot of the styling section:

As for the contextual display title bar, I'll get with the GSC and see if we can resolve this.
