About FF device commissioning

Dear all

I am facing a problem while commissioning of FF device i don't have an AMS(11.1.1) license in my system and I am using DeltaV (11.3.1)

when I am trying to commission FF device it showing "operation fail because the device should not be added to the AMS device manager database" but the same type of device same version Same revision device was commissioned before.

When I am trying to "add device type" in AMS it showing " add device type completed successfully " but during commissioning it showing error

Please suggest me to resolve it

  • What DCS are you commissioning this FF device? Note: You need to get the DD into the DCS also such as DeltaV to successfully commission a FF device. Getting the DD into AMS does not gain much unless the DCS can connect the link to the device which will pass through the device info to AMS database to connect to the device directly for maintenance activities.

The other situation you might get into is that you have not setup a valid AMS architecture so when you add the DD into AMS it did not pass it on to the DCS database to allow FF device commissioning.
Where is your AMS Service Plus and AMS Client installed on?

Look at your DD. Where did you download the DD from? If this is a DeltaV system, you will need to download it from the Emerson DD install website. Here is the link: http://www2.emersonprocess.com/en-us/documentation/deviceinstallkits/pages/deviceinstallkitsearch.aspx

What device type and rev is this device you are having problem with? Has it been through Foundation Fieldbus certification process?

  • Hello Roshan,

"Device could not be added to the database" could potentially be a client server connectivity issue. To get to the heart of the matter, more details may be needed. I suggest that you contact our Global Service Center for support. You can find the contact information here http://www2.emersonprocess.com/en-US/brands/sureservice/Pages/TechnicalSupport.aspx

  • You may need to re-install AMS. But make sure to make a back-up first.
