AMS OPC Server and Fisher DVC

Hi Guys,

Has anyone had experience with obtaining status info from a DVC via AMS OPC Server? I can access the deice but there is a ton of parameters to choose from!

I need to pull back a consolidated device alert status from the valve.

Any help appreciated.

  • Hi Adrian,

I am with the FIELDVUE Marketing and Support team.

The information you are inquiring about the status information is available from a DVC instrument via OPC but is spread over several parameters which will require some numeric conversion to extract. Bear with me as I attempt to explain.

The "device status" information of a DVC is contained in seven bytes worth of binary data. The OPC parameters portraying these bytes are:

         device_status

          xmtr_specific_status_0

          xmtr_specific_status_1

          xmtr_specific_status_2

          xmtr_specific_status_3

          xmtr_specific_status_4

          xmtr_specific_status_5

with the "ValueAsString" for each of these parameters being a decimal number 0 through 255.

If you convert each of these decimal numbers to its eight-bit binary equivalvent you end up with eight bits where each bit has a defined meaning of an individual alert or status condition. The definition of these bits is documented in a FIELDVUE Instruction Manual Supplement document number D103266X012. This document can be downloaded from the followijng website by searching for this document number:

       www2.emersonprocess.com/.../DocSearch.aspx

The "Device Status" information is available in a table on page 2 of this document. The "xmtr_specific_status" bytes are defined by byte as bytes 0 through 5 in the "Command 48" section starting on page  8.

For example, if the ValveAsString for "xmtr_specific_status_4" from a firmware 7 DVC6000 has a value of "9", the meaning of this value is obtained by converting "9" to a binary valve of 00001001 and then checking in" Table 48-4B Status Integrity Byte" for a DVC6000 firmware version 7 (on page 10 of this document) for what these bit mean. "00001001" translates as "Travel Deviation Alert" and "Drive Signal Alert".

If you have additional questions or have problems obtaining this FIELDVUE Instruction Manual Supplement, please contact your local Fisher Controls Valve Sales Representative office or reply back to me.

I hope this clarifies the issue for you!!

    Jeff

  • Great Information Jeff V.  Adrian what exactly are you trying to accomplish?  I ask because there may be a single paremeter that gives you what you need.

  • Is anyone out there utilizing the AlertTrack Snap-On for AMS Device Manager?  If so,  are you applying it to customized alert groups and notifying individuals via email and mobile alerts?
