How a simulator can reduce start-up times at a combined-cycle power plant

With changing market dynamics, we have seen many of our utility customers go through repowering projects. While there are numerous benefits to a repowering project, it can also create challenges as organizations must train their staff on new technologies and procedures, and validate the new controls prior to live plant operations.

One of our customers addressed some of these challenges by using combined-cycle power plant simulation. Their simulator helped them reduce their plant's start-up time by approximately three months via:

  • Educating operators on theory, behavior, and responsiveness of the new technology
  • Training operators to use tools for quick response to abnormal scenarios
  • Verifying and validating new controls and interfaces
