Is there any way I can access values like Overall Vibration directly from the database where it is stored? We are also using AMS MHM connected to these devices.
Many thanx for this reply. I did not consider OPC but my understanding (from Google) is that it uses OLE database connection to save the values (???). We are currently using Device Manager to analyze the devices and MHM to analyze the machine health and it works very well. Next year we also want to look at using Asset Graphics to display these values in the control room.

What I need to do is find a way to mine the data trough Visual Basic programming. It is one of our projects on the mine to see what other ways we can use the information but first i need a way to access it. I know AMS device manager stores it in SQL on our server but I don't think it is very safe to query the database.

Can I use OPC to access the device values?

Where does the Gateway store the data?

Is there any documentation from Emerson on how to get to this data?

Thank you for your time and effort.

Regards

RE: Wireless Data Values Access

The CSI 9420 publishes overall vibration and PeakVue values using WirelessHART back to the gateway, and from there, these values can be published to many places using a wide variety of protocols. You can certainly view these values in AMS Device Manager. Or you can publish them over Modbus or OPC to a DCS, Process Automation system or Plant Historian.

In AMS Device Manager, you can also see a thumbnail spectrum, so that you can have an idea what is happening with that machine.

If you have AMS Machinery Manager, then you can not only get all of these values, but you can aslo view and store high resolution spectra and waveforms. When you do this, then you can take advantage of the full set of diagnostic tools for vibration analysis.
