Could you please help me with this technical clarification?

Target: Calibrate Absolute pressure transmitter (Hart) which has a range: 0 - 200 psia (absolute)

I would like to reinforce this point: from the Rosemount manual, a recommendation states: Do not perform a Zero trim on Absolute pressure transmitter (since they are reference to absolute zero, really difficult to reach).

If zero sensor trim is not highly recommended, a Lower sensor trim is an option to be performed. How Can I perform this Lower sensor trim in an absolute pressure transmitter without altering the factory curve?

This transmitter is installed at site which has an atmospheric pressure of 14.69 psig (provided by marine department). In addition to that, we can get the information by using an Absolute pressure module Fluke 700PA6 connected to the Fluke 754. From the Fluke the Atmospheric pressure is 14.74 psig. Considering that the Fluke is more accurate, so the considered atmospheric pressure will be 14.74 psig.

Is it correct to perform the:

Lower sensor trim at 14.74 psig and

Upper sensor trim at (200 -14.74) 185.26 psig

I just wonder if Both sensor trim could affect the curve (since from Factory, the first point was considered the Absolute zero).

Since, I have never done a Lower trim on Absolute pressure transmitter, if the Lower and Upper sensor trim is done, What happens with the initial range which is 0 - 200 psia?

Many thanks for your support and valuable feedback.

Kind regards,

Need a bit of Advice.. I am in the process of updating the Specs for an end user regarding ASME PTC 19.3 TW. Some of us are aware that PTC 19.3 methodology required the user to calculate the natural frequency through a simple formula that did not account for pipe wall flexibility. The user calculated the ratio of vortex shedding frequency about the tip of the thermowell (wake frequency) to the natural frequency of the thermowell. This design was acceptable if the frequency ratio was less than 0.8 to guard against vortex induced vibrations.A number of thermowells designed in accordance to ASME PTC 19.3 have failed in non-steam service leading to catastrophic consequences. Subsequently ASME issued PTC19.3 TW and updated in 2016, I would like to add the following criteria in the Specs, Pl confirm this approach is good enough for a robust design.

Calculated wake frequency shall not exceed the number in Table below based on information on pipe schedule in data sheets.

This is not the first application of transmitter, THUM and this specific gateway at our site. for some reason this one is not working, and the THUM doesnt show the same contigent of populated fields in AMS as the working one does.

Any help would really be appreciated, and this post may help others in the future.

I need to confirm the calculation of Long Term Stability of 3051SCD2 Ultra Differential Pressure Transmitter. The datasheet says:

±0.15% of URL for 15 years;

for ±50 °F (28 °C) temperature changes,

up to 1000 psi (68.95 bar) line pressure

I'm a little confused about how to calculate it. So simple way is to do 0.15% of URL and that will be for 15 years. but how to consider temperature changes and line pressure changes as mentioned above?

I need to confirm the calculation of Reference accuracy of 3051SCD2 Ultra Differential Pressure Transmitter. The datasheet says:

±0.025% of span;

For spans less than 10:1, ±(0.005 + 0.0035[URL/Span])% of span

So the question is what does it mean that Span is less than 10:1. Does it mean that when URL/Span <10 then we should use ±(0.005 + 0.0035[URL/Span])% of span

and when URL/Span >10 we should use ±0.025% of span

Because what I understand that as we use a larger turn down ratio, the accuracy of the equipment goes down (gets worse). Can you please confirm this understanding?

We are using a Radar Level Transmitter Model 5408 for solid Urea Granule level measurement in a silo. We are facing a repetitive issue with the transmitter. The value gets stuck at 66% even when the actual level in the silo is zero. Once Reset the transmitter reads zero correctly however during the next cycle when the silo is empty the value jumps to 66% and stays there.

I just re-read the Emerson white paper that discusses tuned systems vs. balanced systems, and I believe I understand what is going on. I'm sure a tuned system with an appropriate length low side capillary would perform better than what we have. But I'm curious if just raising the transmitter would cancel out the change in density to the point where the error is cancelled out? If so, what would the right elevation be? Even with the top tap, centered between the taps?

We have problems with two level transmitters 5400. During a day "Strength Signal" can change from 6000 mV to 150 mV.

When "Strength Signal" near 150 mV transmitter loses a level time to time. It happens every day.

We've done:

1. Reset the transmitter to a default settings and reconfigured it.

2. Cleaned the antenna many times.

3. Checked a connection between a flange and a transmitter head - no moisture and dirty.

4. Tried different configurations - the same situation (foam, turbulent, foam + turbulent , different the "Product dielectric", different the " Tank type" ).

5. Tried different thresholds from 400 mV to 50 mV, but the transmitter loses a level time to time.

Conditions:

1. The walls of the tank are made of concrete.

2. The high of the tank is 4600 mm

3. The tank contains produced water from a refinery plant.

4. We don't use a stilling well.

On the tank we have two level transmitters 5400 and their behavior is the same.

What can we try more?

Below are screenshots of transmitter:

Which engineering/technical document will give me that information. I looked in the datasheet which shows to derate the ambient temperature with 1.5:1 ratio and we can use up to 121 C. what is the factor of safety, what will happen if I use the same type of transmitter on 230 C process temperature? any idea!
