cable glands metric vs imperial

SOMEONE Please help me to understand the reasons for below "why Exd enclosures only imperial NPT connectors only can be used whereas Exe we can use both ISO Metric and NPT threads "..

  Let me provide generic answer. There is no restriction as to what type of electrical entry thread (M20 or NPT) you put Flameproof or Intrinsically safe product enclosures.
  In past Emerson - Fisher, DVC had simply elected to offer just NPT connections. This is changing and we are adding M20 as an optional threading.
