DeltaV v16.LTS "DeltaV Operate" (workspace.exe) random crashes

I know "Operate" is soon-to-be legacy, but since upgrading to v16.LTS / new hardware / W11 OS on individual workstations (not VM), our operators have been experiencing random crashes. The operator interface disappears, but in almost every case restored by clicking the "operate" button on FlexLock.

I seem to recall a similar issue in v13 & 14 - had some correlation with embedded PHV trends in graphics.

I've been sending dump files and Windows logs to the GSC - just curious if others are having an issue or have thoughts about a fix.

  • John,

I have not heard that there are any issues with Operate and version 16.LTS. A lot of what you see in version 16 has been vetted for some time with the previous feature packs. I hope GSC can provide a quick resolution for your issue.

    Thanks,

  • I am assuming supported DeltaV hardware?

Do you have anything in C:\Users\Public\Dumps?

Another suspect is antivirus blocking Operate (workspace.exe) to work properly. Or device drivers causing the crash.

Dell 5860 tower workstations purchased from EIP / DeltaV image. All workstations are the same vintage and model number.
Many C:Users\Public\Dumps sent to GSC, as well as Windows logs.
Emerson-supported antivirus and allowlisting is installed, numerous events in the Windows application log "would block" remote file access (but isn't configured to block).
I see a correlation with how heavily the workstation is used, as in active operator mouse-clicking and switching graphics.
In each case, the Windows "Application" event log shows a graphics change 1 second before the crash. In every case I've examined, they are switching to a graphic with a "PHV" embedded trend.

Check that all the embedded trends point to the correct historian, we had this issue going from 13 to 14, for some reason the path changed on the migration to empty and that would crash the graphics. We would get the same crash.
