Windows Upgrade

We are making plans for upgrading from version 14LTS to 16.  We have an almost entirely virtual system with the VMs running on Win 10 LTSB and Server 2022.  We are being told that the OS upgrades to LTSC only work on physical machines.  Assuming that we are being told correctly, We will have to rebuild all of our VMs anyway.  Again, assuming that this is true, is there any advantage to going to Win 10 LTSC versus Win 11 LTSC?  If this is not correct, can you give me information on how to order the upgrade kits for virtual machines?  Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, this correct. DeltaV 16.LTS supports Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021 and Windows 11 IoT LTSC 2024. On the server OS, it supports both Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025 Standard.

Thank you for the quick response. My question is actually about the upgrade process itself. For physical machines, there are upgrade kits available that allow you to upgrade that machine to the appropriate OS without having to rebuild the machine. I am being told that these kits only work for physical machines. Almost all of our machines are virtual. If this is correct, I'll have to rebuild almost all of my workstations from scratch. I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.
  • If you wait for the VM Templates there will be one for Windows 11 and Server 2025, so saving some of the work. You could then use the DeltaV Migration assistant to move to v16.

Thank you. The more I learn about the Migration assistant, the more I'm liking how this will be unfolding. It also makes more sense to me why there were upgrade kits for physical machines but not for virtual.
