Replacing Foundation Fieldbus Tank Radar Device

I have been having some trouble with the replacement of a Foundation Fieldbus 3900 SAAB Radar tank level indicator with one currently operation in the field, but showing sporadic failures being the reason for the replacement. Following the Replace procedure, it was successful up until the commission step. The Fieldbus Device Replacement Wizard window showed ‘Step Started: Commission the new device. Step Stopped: Commission the new device’. The only option to proceed or get out of being stuck is to Cancel. The old device was able to successfully Decommission, while the new device was showing under Decommissioned Fieldbus Devices.

DETAILS:

  • Explorer V15 LTS
  • Rosemount 3900 TankRadar REX Level Transmitter - 0011513900 RADAR REX
  • H1 Fieldbus Card; KJ3242X1-BA2, SW Rev = 4.91, HW Rev = 4.5
  • Refurbished device is one previously taken out of the system, refurbished, then put back in service but on a different tank and most likely different FF segment.

Steps I followed:

  • Upon new device not connecting. Put old back in the field and was able to Commission to restore tank level indication.
  • Connected ‘new’ refurbished radar back to the segment
  • It showed up in Decommission Fieldbus Devices tree
  • Performed Commission procedure – Selecting the device
  • Hit OK
  • Next step does not proceed as no Commission status window never appears like it should
  • Thought the H1 card needed Upgrading – Upgraded H1 card to the lasted SW and HW firmware available for Explorer V15 LTS
  • Commission step was unsuccessful, and same thing happened as before – Not it!
  • Pulling out the hair I have left
  • Decided that was enough for the day and had the old radar installed back again.
  • Commissioned!! – WORKS!
  • Onto something else to try

Does anyone have any thoughts? It closely aligns with DD mismatches and parameter misalignment from refurbishment, even though the device shows correct Device Type and Revision as the rest of the devices are configured for. So that is my next step is to validate the radars settings via TREX, but until then, I’m at a loss.

Thanks,

Riley
