Conventional Software Support - End of Life - Guardian Support Bridge Service

Hello,

These terms are confusing for me.  Would someone kindly explain for me these items, what each means, and how they relate to each other?

1. Guardian Support Bridge Service
2. Conventional Software Support (CSS)
3. End of Life (for a DeltaV software version)

Also, when is the EOL for version 14LTS or 14.3.1. When is the end of CSS for this version?

Thanks so much.

  • I'll give it a try. But I expect a more precise answer will follow....

Guardian Support Bridge Service is offered t customers who are unable to upgrade their current version of DeltaV once that version reaches End of Support.
For example, v14LTS (V14.3.1) was released in 2018 and had a 5 year support window. V15LTS released in 2022, and v16LTS is expected at the end of 2025. A customer at v14LTS would lose support in 2023 for software updates and hotfixes in 2023. The Guardian Support Bridge would extend support until they are able to upgrade to a later version. Note that v15LTS and future versions are expected to provide support for 6 years, with new releases occurring every 3 years.

Conventional Software Support refers to the enabling license provided to customers covered by Guardian Support. This license allows the installation of DeltaV Hotfixes dated prior to the expiration of the CSS license. This license issued on an annual basis as long as the system has an active Guardian agreement. The Guardian support Bridge Service provides this CSS license beyond the normal support window of the DeltaV release

End of Life usually refers to components that are no longer manufactured. It could be applied to a version of DeltaV once that version is no longer in its support window and no longer receiving firmware or software updates. Like physical components, the software can continue to run indefinitely without support. Keeping the system current is recommended as underlying Operating System and computer hardware can be difficult to maintain, especially with respect to cyber security.

So if your version of DeltaV reaches end of life/support, you are unable to receive the CSS license that enables installation of new Hotfixes. Guardian Support Bridge service may be offered and that would allow you to receive the CSS license and possibly any new Hotfixes released for that version. Customers without the bridge service would not receive those hotfixes.

    How did I do?
