EIOC Alarm - Ethernet IO: Device Problem on Port 01

We have recently started getting alarms on one of our EIOC's with the message "Ethernet IO: Device Problem on Port 01".  This alarm goes inactive in 2 seconds and I can't find any issues with the devices connected to this EIOC at the time we get the alarm.  Any suggestions on what to look for?

  • Troubleshooting EIOC communication to device issues will usually require Wireshark capture so that messaging can be examined. Does your 3rd party network switch allow traffic to be mirrored for monitoring/capture? If not, will need a device to connect either the EIOC or the device in question through this to see related traffic to the device.

We have located the device with the issue and it is out of service. What are the potential downfalls of downloading an EIOC with a running plant? Is there a way to go online with the EIOC and either change the MAINT_ALARM to LOG priority or increase my shelving time so this is not a nuisance to operations? I have a scheduled outage soon and would prefer to wait until then to remove this device since the other devices on this EIOC handles critical analyses for plant operation.

I do not believe a node alarm such as the the maint_alm priority can be changed online through control studio. That being said, the alarm priority is part of the setup data for the node and generally considered safe to download changed setup data to a node while the process is running.
